Welcome!

President's Message:

For those of you I haven’t met, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Kym Bloom and I’ve been on the London House board for four and a half years. Recently, I became the board president and will do my best to keep our building a peaceful and beautiful place to live. I’m in unit 201 and my email is kdbloom@mac.com — please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

It’s hard to believe summer is finally here. I’m sure many of you have noticed some of the landscaping that Richard has been doing around the property. If not, take a look around – we have a great looking building and it’s only going to get better as the summer goes on. In that spirit, we are going to hold our balcony and window decoration contest again. Judging won’t take place until the 4th of July weekend, so you’ve got time to get your garden going. The board members will choose two winners: the first place winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to a local garden/gift store, and second place will receive a $25 gift certificate. We also will award a $25 gift certificate to the garden-level unit with the best window decorations. Since we are doing the judging during the 4th of July, holiday decorations also will count.

Another summer event at London House is our annual yard sale, which will be on Saturday, June 20th. Residents are welcome to set up tables on the south side of the building and Richard will open up the club room if anyone would like to store their items in that room the night before. Typically we start at 8 a.m., but if you want to start earlier or later, you are free to do so.

On one final note, I hope everyone has had a chance to use our new laundry machines. The cost for using them has gone up a bit, but so has the capacity of the machines. They also are more efficient than the old ones. Since the washing machines are front-loading, please be aware that once you shut the door and select your wash cycle, you cannot open it again until the cycle has finished. Also, even though the capacity is higher, you need to leave some room in the washing machine for the clothes to move around. If you stuff the machine too full, it won’t be able to complete rinse or spin the clothes to remove the excess water. Finally, we realize the door to the washing machine opens outward, making it a bit awkward. Richard was able to switch the doors on the dryer so they open toward the wall, but the washing machine doors cannot be changed.

Happy summer everyone!

Sincerely,

Kym Bloom
